Explore Through Movement and Play with Your Toddler

Activity #1: Homemade Obstacle Course

Note to parents and caregivers: Building and engaging in movement through an obstacle course will help your child build upon their physical development and gross motor skills. This activity will help build their balance and coordination skills.

Materials:
Items around the house (blankets, couch cushions, pillows)

Instructions:
Use your imagination and set up materials around the room. Place the cushions on the floor, stack pillows, hang blankets over a chair/table. Incorporate jumping, hopping, skipping, crawling, and balancing on one foot throughout the course.

Activity #2: Dancing to the Beat!

Note to parents and caregivers: Dance is fun for young children. It is open ended and it is a great form of exercise, to build coordination, balance, and rhythm of music. This activity will focus on building creativity and imagination by creating new ways to move and dance.

Materials:
Music

Instructions:
Turn on the music and have a dance party. Encourage your child to dance along.

What moves do they already know? What moves can you teach them?
